PROJECTS
SCENE
SCENE is a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action that explores how artificial intelligence, data-driven technologies and digital cultural heritage can strengthen the competitiveness of the European filmmaking industry. The project develops a digital platform designed to support the whole film production lifecycle, from early planning and location scouting to production, post-production, distribution and audience engagement.
The project combines searchable data lakes, knowledge graphs, 3D digital models of European cultural sites, AI-based audience analysis, lighting and audio simulation, blockchain-based IPR protection and recommendation tools. Together, these technologies aim to help filmmakers discover suitable locations, work with richer cultural and multimedia assets, improve production decisions, and connect films with the most appropriate audiences and distribution channels.
By bringing together cultural heritage, creative industries and advanced digital technologies, SCENE contributes to a more innovative, accessible and globally competitive European audiovisual sector, while respecting privacy, ethical principles, social responsibility and the values of the New European Bauhaus.
SATRD role in the SCENE project
SATRD, as part of UPV, contributes to SCENE with its expertise in data management, semantic technologies, digital platforms, architecture definition, validation and ethical data governance. Its main technical contribution is the leadership of Task T3.1 – Exploration Data Lakes & Ontologies, where SATRD/UPV coordinates the analysis of existing film-related data lakes and the development of the SCENE-O ontology, together with the associated semantic annotation tools, converters, documentation and public API to be used in the project pilots.
In addition, SATRD/UPV leads Task T1.4 – Data Management and Governance, Regulatory, Societal, Ethical and Gender Issues. Through this role, SATRD ensures that project data, including film content, 3D recreations, pilot data and any personal data collected through participatory activities, is handled according to GDPR, informed consent procedures, anonymisation practices and responsible data management principles.
Beyond these leadership roles, SATRD/UPV also contributes to the project’s technical framework, architecture definition, platform integration, validation and dissemination activities, helping connect the project’s semantic and data-management work with the broader SCENE platform and its use in real filmmaking and cultural-heritage scenarios.
